Growing up, whenever I did something that did not meet the expectations of someone else I heard “What’s WRONG with you?” (I cringe when I think how many times I’ve said this to my own children!!!)
In my work, I often help my clients clear blocks to their success by shifting their mindset (beliefs they have about themselves, life and what is possible for them, that they may not be aware of, and that are not in alignment with who they truly are!).
I have come to realize that many of us were subtly (and unintentionally) conditioned to believe that something is WRONG with us. When things are not going your way, when you are not achieving the success you desire – whether it is finding happiness, attracting money, love, friendship, clients – the default thinking is “something is wrong”. Unfortunately, this very default track focuses the mind on finding what is “wrong” (so we can fix it) and by the very nature of the law of attraction, we continue to attract more of what’s WRONG!
I invite you to tune in to your thoughts and see if you have this pattern.
If so, start asking yourself: “What’s RIGHT about this that I’m not seeing?”
“What’s right about _______(me, this situation, this person) that I’m not seeing?”.
When you look in the mirror, instead of thinking “oh god, look at my ____ (hair, or that pimple, or your double chin, those wrinkles, etc), find something you actually like about yourself – what’s RIGHT with what you see in the mirror – and focus on that!
Once you’re able to do that, then take another step and actually COMPLIMENT yourself on something! Woo hoo! Now you’re on a roll!
I guarantee you, if you make this your new default thinking, you will experience miracles = A shift in perception(as defined in A Course in Miracles).
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this, especially if you recognize this pattern in yourself, so please leave a comment below!
Helen, you are masterful at catching the hidden yet common words One speaks. When thinking about your thoughts here, I realized that I do say that – ‘what’s wrong with me’, even light heartedly. Mmm . . . programmed and subtle. Thanks for the alert!
Our self talk is o so subtle and powerful.
Thanks Emra!
