Have you ever noticed how much time and money we spend distracting ourselves?

The multi-billion dollar “entertainment industry” solely exists to cater to this desire.

God forbid we should feel bored, disappointed, confused, angry, sad, afraid, or overwhelmed (which is simply a cluster of unidentified emotions).

In the space of ‘doing nothing’ we are confronted with our thoughts and emotions and our unwillingness to be with them. It can be downright scary to sit with or face the aspects ourselves we have been taught to judge as negative or bad!

AND, If we don’t want to be with ourselves, why are we surprised or upset when others don’t want to be with us?

Interesting right?

I’ve been choosing to sit with a lot of uncomfortable emotions that have been arising within me for the past week. Anger, disappointment, sadness, overwhelm, panic – Fear in all its many disguises.

As an empath, I pick up other people’s emotional energy, so sometimes the things I am feeling don’t originate within me.

When we are super busy, it’s easy for these emotions to go unnoticed and unprocessed. They will build and accumulate until eventually, we are forced to confront them and release them.

The Universe, Your higher Self, God, Life, Your body… all conspire (on our behalf) to slow us down or stop us so this healing and integration can occur.

It might be that you get sick or you can’t move forward – no matter how hard you try. Projects are held up by things beyond your control, issues with other people aren’t resolving, employees leave, money that should have already been paid over is held up, etc. etc.

When you find yourself here,

pay attention.

Get curious.

Take the time to stop and breathe.

This is not as simple as it sounds. It can be the hardest thing to do. To stop when you have significant momentum going. It takes energy to get the momentum going again, so we are often hesitant to stop once we have gained momentum.

However, when we are riding a wave of momentum, it can be easy to miss things. Small, but profoundly impactful and important, things.

You may just find yourself being impatient, feeling rushed, tense and stressed out. Or maybe there is just a sense of uneasiness within you.

Without some level of self awareness, you may not feel the sensations and emotions when they are still at a subtle level (and easier to address), slowing down by simply taking a breath and checking in with yourself is a great place to start opening up your self awareness.

What if these opportunities to slow down are life’s wisdom, or our internal GPS, trying to signal that there is something to be gained here?

A small tweak in your alignment, an opportunity to lighten your load or to elevate a process – which will ultimately make everything easier and allow you to make faster progress.

It certainly has been my experience and I’ve seen this happen with so many of my clients.

It begins with a willingness to trust the process. To trust life and that if something is happening, it is here FOR your greater good.

So here I am. Sitting in this place of discomfort. Not loving it, but being willing to feel it all. Surrendering and opening to receive the support I need to move through it with ease and grace (which also seems to speed up the journey).

I feel grateful for the people in my life that support me (paid and unpaid) when I am too overwhelmed to use the tools I have to support myself. Fortunately, I’ve been here enough times to know that “This too shall pass” and that receiving the support helps me get through it faster and easier.

How about you?

Are you recognizing the signals that you need to slow down and check in?

Who are the people you turn to for support when you need it?

Do you allow yourself to ask for it and receive it, or are you still trying to do it all on your own?

Are you ready to Unleash your most Authentic Self?
